False Allegations

Whether you become involved in a high-conflict divorce or not, having a relationship with a high-conflict person who has borderline personality disorder or traits seems to increase the likelihood that you will be the target of false allegations. Often these relate to improper sexual behavior, physical abuse, taking or controlling money, treating children badly, or some other bad behavior.

You may notice that these behaviors are similar to the actual abusive behaviors that some borderlines engage in, such as domestic violence. The flip side is that this same general personality pattern involves making false allegations of abusive behavior. Sometimes, the same person who is actually engaging in abusive behavior makes false allegations that you are engaging in such behavior.

If you start seeing signs of abusive behavior or false allegations, be very careful to avoid confrontations, and seek the advice of a qualified lawyer or counselor.

He filed a restraining order against me two weeks after I fled home. He made false allegations about me. He got sole physical custody. Despite a visitation order, I am not able to see my children because he won’t bring them for visitation. The kids say they don’t want to see me. He has turned them against me. He does not want me to be in my children’s lives.

Didn’t marry or move in but relationship lasted two-and-a-half years. Red flags were really lengthy emails from the person, which were typically filled with veiled accusations of cheating or blaming regarding simple to major grievances. The emails would come out of the blue when I would be unaware the other person was unhappy. The emails were never preceded with conversation.
